Game Vision

Origin

The game began from a real contrast. The creator's partner patiently raises flowers and fruit trees from seed, moves them between pots, studies their traits, and cares for them every day. The creator is less comfortable around gardening because of pollen allergies and a strong fear of soft-bodied insects, but occasionally watering a thirsty plant still creates a small, genuine feeling of care and relief.

The project is a way to approach plants through a system that feels safe, legible, and inviting. It should encourage curiosity about real plant habits, growth stages, forms, seeds, and ecology without turning play into homework.

Player Promise

Small, satisfying acts of care create visible growth now; repeated curiosity gradually reveals how plants live.

The game is not primarily an encyclopedia and not primarily a business empire simulator. Pleasurable feedback is the main psychological engine, but immediate feedback must not be confused with constant input. Quiet growth, anticipation, collection, and long-term understanding give the short loops depth and meaning.

Design Pillars

1. Care Feels Good Immediately

  • A useful action should visibly improve a plant or the garden.
  • Watering should feel like relieving a need, not filling a spreadsheet.
  • Growth, bloom quantity, freshness, visitors, money, and unlocks provide frequent feedback.
  • Early manual activity may teach the loop, but repeated chores should become automatable.

2. Knowledge Arrives Through Play

  • Plant preferences should be learned through outcomes, observation, and comparison.
  • Real traits inspire mechanics, but readability is more important than simulation accuracy.
  • The codex records discoveries after the player encounters them instead of front-loading study.
  • Deeper research is a long loop that supports the game; it should not block the short loops.

3. Ecology Is Understandable, Not Horrific

  • Visitors have conditions and ecological roles.
  • Harmful insects can be treated promptly and never appear as jump scares.
  • Soft-bodied insects remain deferred until representation and comfort options are designed.
  • Failure should produce information and recovery materials, not disgust or helplessness.

4. Risk Creates Anticipation, Not Regret

  • Money and active play time may be risked.
  • Important risks must be visible before commitment.
  • Randomness should resolve a decision, not replace one.
  • A failed attempt should leave knowledge, compost, clues, reputation, or a future advantage.
  • The private greenhouse, basic seeds, and codex are protected from business bankruptcy.

5. Arcs Reframe Existing Loops

  • Events, competitions, and market moments should create temporary goals using existing systems.
  • A good event produces at least two emotional peaks: successful cultivation and successful recognition or sale.
  • Events should not become a second maintenance screen that runs forever.
  • Real-time FOMO is avoided; deadlines use visible in-game actions or event rounds.

6. Complexity Is Earned Through Automation

  • A new system may ask for attention only after the previous system has been learned and compressed.
  • Every repeated manual task needs a visible exit ramp into batching, equipment, staff, or persistent policy.
  • Automation should preserve meaningful choices while removing checking and repeated confirmation.
  • Deeper systems remain quiet until the player deliberately enters them; declining a branch should not clutter ordinary play.
  • Introduce one new decision at a time, then summarize it once it becomes routine.

Early clicks are not filler. They teach the physical and emotional meaning of care. Their job is complete once the player can predict the result, at which point repetition should become a reward to automate rather than an obligation to endure.

7. Absence Creates Anticipation

  • A healthy plant may grow slowly and safely while the player is away.
  • Active care creates bounded momentum and better outcomes rather than merely preventing punishment.
  • Plants remain present long enough to develop visual and emotional continuity.
  • A showcase view makes the garden itself a persistent reward, separate from its management controls.
  • The desired return impulse is curiosity about visible change, not anxiety about accumulated chores.

8. Depth Must Not Become Administrative Burden

  • Realistic options may add meaning, but routine moments should present one safe default action.
  • Less common choices belong behind deliberate expansion, not beside the primary action every time.
  • Deferring a choice should be safe. The player should not lose value merely because they did not open a decision panel immediately.
  • Repeated decisions should become remembered preferences, batch actions, or automation once their novelty is gone.
  • On phones, the frequent path must remain visible and reachable without scanning long text or scrolling between cause and response.

Emotional Cadence

The intended rhythm is:

small care relief
-> visible growth
-> anticipation
-> bloom or discovery burst
-> money / collection / recognition
-> quieter planning
-> next loop

Long arcs should periodically interrupt stable production with a new reason to care about familiar plants.

Scope Boundary

The home greenhouse is the heart of the game. Competitions are short arcs above it. A future shop may become an optional macro loop, but it must not erase the original fantasy of learning and caring for plants.

If the shop is developed, progression should move from roadside stand to market stall to leased shop to branded boutique. A player must always be able to close or downgrade the business and return to the greenhouse.

Current Product Question

The core gardening loops and first competition arc function, but the home greenhouse currently asks for management more strongly than attachment. The current prototype question is:

Can safe quiet growth, bounded rewards for attentive care, longer plant continuity, and a dedicated showcase view make the player want to return and see what grew?
